Loot and Rarity

Every item in the dungeon has a rarity tier that determines its value, its power when equipped, and whether it is worth carrying out. Rarity is the most important signal in the dungeon — learning to read it at a glance and make split-second keep-or-sell decisions is the core skill of a veteran Fell & Sell dungeoneer.

Rarity tiers

Fell & Sell uses a color-coded rarity system:

Common (gray/white). Basic enemy drops and starting equipment. Low value, modest power. Sell on sight unless you need equipment desperately.

Uncommon (green). Noticeably better than common items. Moderate resale value and usable equipment. Most dungeon drops fall here.

Rare (blue). Significant step up in both value and power. Worth carrying out almost always. Some rare items are worth keeping for personal use.

Epic (purple). High-value items with meaningful combat benefits. Always worth banking. These are your reliable high-margin sales.

Legendary (orange/gold). The rarest and most valuable drops. Guaranteed to be worth carrying. Some legendary items are so powerful they redefine your build.

Floor depth and rarity

Rarer items drop more frequently on deeper floors. Floor 1 and 2 are dominated by common and uncommon items. Floor 3 starts producing rare drops. Floor 5 and beyond are where epic and legendary items appear with any regularity.

This creates a clear strategic tension: deeper floors have better loot but higher risk. The calculation of how deep to push depends on your current gear, your build, and how much you are already carrying.

Evaluating loot mid-run

When you pick up an item mid-run, evaluate it in this order:

  1. Rarity. If it is common, sell it to the in-dungeon vendor if available or drop it. If it is rare or above, it warrants consideration.

  2. Fit. Does this item fit your current build? If it is a weapon type you do not use or armor you cannot equip, it is effectively just a sale item.

  3. Value. What is its sale price versus its carrying cost? Some items are heavy relative to their gold value. These are the hardest decisions.

  4. Space. Do you have room? If your inventory is full, every new item requires dropping something. Drop the lowest value item in your inventory.

The carry versus sell decision

The hardest decision in Fell & Sell is not combat — it is logistics. Every run presents more potentially valuable items than you can carry. The discipline to quickly identify your top items and let the rest go is essential.

General guidelines:

Carry legendary items always. Their value and power justify the inventory slot.

Carry epic items unless you are desperately full. They are valuable enough to warrant the space.

Sell rare items unless they directly improve your build. Rares sell for good gold and the gear difference from a rare to an epic is often worth the inventory slot.

Drop common and uncommon items unless you have explicit space. They crowd out better loot.

Managing inventory pressure

As you progress, inventory space becomes a more critical constraint. The solution is not to carry less — it is to increase your carrying capacity through gear with inventory bonuses, and to bank more frequently.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I pick up every item I see?

No — only pick up uncommon items and above unless you have explicit inventory space. Common items crowd out better loot and the time spent picking them up is not worth the few gold they sell for.

How do I know if an item is worth keeping for my build?

Check the stats against your current equipment. If it is a meaningful upgrade to your primary combat stats and fits your build archetype, keep it. Otherwise, sell it.

Do enemies on deeper floors drop better rarity on average?

Yes. Floor depth correlates strongly with rarity tier. Floor 5+ enemies have a significantly higher chance of epic and legendary drops compared to floors 1-2.

Can I increase my inventory space?

Yes — some gear provides inventory capacity bonuses. Prioritize these items when shopping at the Quest Board or crafting.
